According to the GPS satmap supplied by the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue team the key statistics of our first 2 days are as follows:

Saturday: BGH to Melrose abbey to Kelso - 32.8 km walked at an average speed of 4.1 km/h over about 8 hours (including breaks).

Sunday: Kelso abbey to Jedburgh abbey - 22.1 km walked at an average speed of 3.7 km/h over 5 1/2 hours.

On Sunday David and I were joined by Ann, Helen and Sharon, all nurses at SCBU, for the whole leg. Their nursing skills were invaluable in helping to deal with the blisters...

Monday: A wet climb out of Jed over to Denholm, topped up by a drenching on the way into Hawick...

Once again, taken aback by the generosity of local people - in Denholm the local butcher came out to greet us and gave us some cash for SCBU; likewise, while we were having our sandwich on the green, a lady nipped over and gave us money for the can; the regulars in Daltons in Hawick were generous, too, when we recovered there! Our companions for the day included Susan from the Ranger Service and Scott and Lyle from Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue - thanks to them and all the others.
