The Special Care Baby Unit
We currently have 8 cots and care for approximately 200 babies each year. These include babies who have been born prematurely; babies who have medical or breathing problems and need special medication or treatment; and babies who need help with feeding. Babies can be on the unit for varying periods of time – anything from a few hours to several weeks. Our team consists of 15 nurses and midwives and several doctors. We also work closely with our 3 newborn hearing screeners, the Postnatal Ward, Labour Ward and the Neonatal Unit up in Edinburgh. We have a family room on the unit where parents and siblings can spend time during the day and take time out from the stresses of having a baby on Special Care. In there we have a TV, sofa, and books & toys for any younger children. The addition of an adjustable height cot will be a huge boost to the unit and greatly benefit parents and staff. The money raised to enable us to purchase this will be most gratefully appreciated and can we please thank you again for choosing the Special Care Baby Unit as the recipient of your fundraising efforts. |

The Special Care Baby Unit is a small unit situated next to the Labour Ward at Borders General Hospital.
